A lot of the times people get really lazy in style when it's hot. I understand, who really wants to put any effort into anything when it's 100+ degrees outside but you can still be "Hot" in the Heat. Here are the essentials to a stylish summer.
1. Oversized Tanks- when people think of a tank top,or undershirt, they think of something 3 to pack but these are the top thing needed for a hot day. Everyone is stocking their shelves heavily with a variety of colors and patterns of tanks. Since I like to recycle my clothes, or wear them again, I tend to stay away from prints. Prints usually are memorable and if you like taking a lot of pictures this can be a problem. I suggest going to your local Target and grabbing a basic blue, white, and black tank. I suggest buying them a size larger. People might feel that this will defeat the purpose because most people want to show their body off but if done well people will still see your gym efforts. If you do go for prints, I suggest Pendleton which is a brand known for their prints and designs. You can find their tanks at Urban Outfitters and Nordstrom. Tanks pair well with anything so use them heavily.
2. Canvas shoes and sneakers- for people who want something durable for long walks but yet stylish, stick with a canvas shoe. Nike always has a variety of sneakers for summer and usually range from 65-100 bucks, which isn't bad for male sneakers. Tom's is a now becoming a common trend too. I have been wearing Tom's for years now and I think they are prefect for the days you just don't want to wear a heavy sneak or a sandal. Neiman Marcus has a variety of special purchase Tom's for the guys who don't want the same shoe as everyone else. A basic pair of Tom's start at 60 bucks and the special purchase can range up to $200.
3. Gladiator Sandal- I know I might get heat for this but yes every guy needs a pair. They are the combat boot of summer. They are edgy enough to take a simple pair of jeans and a t-shirt to the next level. I suggest Zara and Aldo for these. I wouldn't spend a great deal of money on them because they are seasonal.
4. Oversized T-Shirt- you never can get away from this. No matter what season you are in they are always needed. I would suggest a organic cotton blend. These usually wash better and tend to last. For a little edge, go to American Apparel and grab a sheer one. I would suggest buying them in your size because they run a size bigger and you don't want to have on a dress.
5. Shades- every guy deserves a great pair of glasses, I tend to stick to a aviator. These are easy and I feel they fit every face. I suggest a darker color because you want to be able to wear them in all seasons.
6. Fedoras- these fit everyone's head even mines and I have a huge head. These go with any outfit, literally. I stick with a natural color with a black ribbon but have fun and try colors. It really doesn't matter where you purchase them. I would suggest Nordstrom Men's Department because they have a variety of colors and even though they cost a little more they are worth it.
7. Cut-off sweat shorts- these are for those lazy days. I have an addiction for sweatshirts, sweatshorts, and sweatpants. You can still put a loafer and a button up with a sweat short and you have a great outfit. These are an essential because you can wear them so many ways.
8. Cargos- rather its shorts or pants they are the solution to summer. If you are looking for more of a chilled look, go for a oversized cargo pant. Just like in any season, you can't go wrong with a camouflage pair. I usually find a lot of mines anywhere, both pants and shorts, on sale.
9. Distressed anything- it's hot cut the sleeves off, make large holes, and bleach it. Distressing is like recycling, once it gets a hole you can make another one and you got a new outfit. Being that I don't like white, I usually distress my white jeans in the summer to make them have a little more character.
10. Backpacks- the solution for being on the move. These are the most needed thing for a guy. From work, gym, castings, and meetings guy are lugging around a lot of things and they need somewhere to store it. You can't go wrong with any color or size
I hope this helps you to start a great summer wardrobe. Like always, I want to see photos so be sure to submit your "Hot Summer Looks" to jared.goodloe@gmail.com
